This short eleven slide powerpoint introduces the term diction and teaches students how to differentiate between informal, neutral, and formal diction, as well as specific key terms, such as colloquialism, idiom, slang, and connotation. For each type of diction presented, examples are given. The examples are taken from classic books such as Huck Finn and The Bluest Eye. This short slideshow is an excellent way to introduce diction to your students. It is used for eleventh grade students, but would be appropriate for any high school level class.
