Dictionary Skill Practice offers three sets of words beginning with all letters of the alphabet. Students must look up each word listed and then identify the guide words, location on the page (left or right column), and note if there is an illustration with the word or not.
• Depending on the age of the students, more information could be required. Parts of speech, number of definitions, prefixes or suffixes, and many others could be valid additions.
• In addition, teachers could include use content vocabulary or grade level spelling lists to replace existing words.
• Teachers might want to double check each word list against the most common dictionary available in the classroom or library.
• There is no answer key due to the variety of dictionaries that could be used to complete the activity.
