In this highly engaging geography and population density map mini-unit, students learn about the important concept of population density. Students are introduced to the concept in very kid-friendly terms, analyze population density maps, and draw conclusions about population density by comparing information from a variety of sources! ✮✮ This resource is now Google 1:1 compatible! ✮✮
Students are first introduced to population density, how it works, and why geographers see this as an important tool. Then, students closely examine a United States density map to draw conclusions about the US population. Then, students make assumptions about how population density can be influenced by natural features when they compare what they've learned with a physical map! Also, students compare events on a timeline that may influence an area's density, and students interpret the effect all of this has on the mean population center of the United States!
This is a great supplement to any unit on geography, especially if you are looking to help students interpret and analyze maps! Even more, students draw conclusions by comparing a variety of information -- a very important skill that if often ignored!
