This is a 10-page unit plan that will have students compare and contrast literature and/or nonfiction by engaging in academic discourse that challenges all levels of critical thinking. Students will read, listen, speak and write in a variety of ways to deepen their understanding of the text that they have closely read. Suggestions are given for ways to group students according to ability as well as heterogeneously. Support activities for advanced students, ESL students, and EC students are provided as well. This unit supports the academic conversation cards, research statement, inspiration statement, standards remediation toolkit and data tracker all available in my store. It can also be a stand-alone guide to build 6-10 days worth of lesson plans in a literacy unit.
