This is part four to the biographies II began a couple years ago. The first two are mixed topics, the third is Hispanic Americans, and this one is children’s authors.
I put this together as a short differentiated biography research activity for my kiddos. These notetaking sheets are not meant for a long or involved project—more using important people to practice the research process. On our campus we’re lucky enough to have access to several different options, including print resources, the PebbleGo online database, and WorldBookOnline. Really any non-fiction source would work.
See the preview for the table of contents.
The first set (slides 4-28 requires only the most basic information.
The second set (slides 29-53) steps up the thinking a bit more and asks the students to compare/contrast one aspect of the author’s life with their own.
The third set (slides 54-78) steps the thinking up even a little more asking for more information and a question the student would like to ask the author.
Slides 79-108 are added authors (not visible in the current preview pic but in the file!) in the same format. They include Stan & Jan Berenstain, HA & Margaret Rey, Norman Bridwell, Judy Blume, Marc Brown, Robert Munsch, Arnold Lobel, Hans Christian Anderson, Beverly Cleary, and Steven Kellogg.
