Differentiated Coin Task Cards for Hands-On Math Center contains 48 task cards, 12 at each level. This resource aligns with second grade math standard 2.MD.8.
These cards were created for use in my “hands-on bin” math center. I wanted to give my students a fun, engaging way to interact with coins throughout the year, both to introduce and reinforce the money standards we would be covering. With that in mind, I created three levels of cards, which are color-coordinated for ease of use.
Red Cards:The red cards focus on identifying and learning the value of each coin. There is some skip-counting involved, but students do not need to be familiar with the coins prior to using the cards.
Yellow Cards: The yellow cards focus on counting a group of mixed coins. The cards are designed to be used after students have mastered identifying coin names and values.
Green Cards: The green cards focus on solving word problems involving coins.
*In my classroom, I use the hands-on bin center to give students an opportunity to interact with manipulatives, and for that reason I do not require them to record any work or answers. However, I have included an alternate set of green cards with numbers and a recording page for those who would like to use the cards as a paper & pencil task card station.
