This is the basic 'script' for writing a 5 paragraph essay. I use it for ELLs and students with disabilities to help them get the format of an essay, especially during tests. The essay is written to promote correct grammar and be easily memorized. Students learn to write an outline with their supports and thesis then they can use this script to connect their ideas. The script has underlines places where items from the outline are included.
Students have to find their own evidence and write their own explanations and conclusions. In this model I have two set simple outlines for practice, but I have students write a made up quote instead of stopping to find them.
This is best used for students with real writing difficulties who struggle to link ideas grammatically. It can be used to write a level 2 or 3 essay based on Common Core standards depending on the thesis and evidence the student chooses.
