Differentiated Halloween Opposites Game. Students will have fun working on their opposites with this cooperative learning game.
* Game board
* Matching opposite cards
* student friendly direction card
* teacher direction card
* student recording sheet (can be single sided or back to back)
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.K.5b Demonstrate understanding of frequently occurring verbs and adjectives by relating them to their opposites (antonyms).
1.) Students will roll the cube and move forward that number of spaces. They will read the opposite word and then look for the opposite match.
2.) If they find the correct match they remain on the space, they record their opposites on the opposite recording sheet. Play goes to the next player. If they do not find the match, then they go back to their previous space.
3.) Game play continues until one student reaches the end
Differentiated ways to use the game:
1.) Cut out matching cards so students will spread out the matching cards
2.) Keep matching cards as a whole
3.) Keep matching cards as a whole for a “cheat sheet” if they can’t think of a match to look for ideas
4.) Cut out matching cards, but only put out some matching cards, so students will have to think of their own opposite for some items. This can be differentiated and purposefully selected which cards you omit and which you include.
5.) Do not provide any matches and students must come up with their own opposites.
