Description

Updated in 2020 with Google Slides AND printable versions AND EASEL! You get it all!

This article discusses the science behind the Winter Solstice and also the traditions that have been celebrated for centuries in Europe and North America. You get the same article at three different levels, allowing for flexibility and easy differentiation. There are also vocabulary and comprehension activities, including an Integrating Information activity that extends students' understanding of the science behind the tradition. This resource gives you 5 days of instructional activities!

Here's what you get:

1. A two-page pdf and EASEL article about the Winter Solstice at three different levels (1100 - 1200 Lexile, 900 - 1000 Lexile, and 800 - 900 Lexile.) The levels are appropriate for most 4th, 5th and 6th graders.

2. The same two-page article at each level as a Google Slide deck.

3. Three vocabulary activities (Word Wonder, Dictionary Dive and Prefix Power) -printable AND Google Slides!

4. Three comprehension activities (What's the Gist?, Text Dependent Questions and Integrating Information) - printable AND Google Slides!

5. All the activities come with an Answer Key and/or Rubric to make grading simple!

There are suggested schedules and ideas for how to use each activity as well as directions for how to use the Google Slides and suggestions for teaching virtually (including a link to a video on how to use Jamboard for one of the activities.)

This is a pdf download with links embedded in the document for the Google Slides. You will make your own copy of the Google Slides version for each Lexile Level.
