This product is a....
DIFFERENTIATED OPINION WRITING PROMPT & ADORABLE GROUNDHOG CRAFTIVITY (with Anchor Charts, Task Cards, & Scoot Game for modeling and teaching the differences between Facts & Opinions as a pre-requisite for the art of Opinion Writing) for Groundhog's Day (I told you....the fluff of groundhog's day is out, but is replaced with a CCSS correlated activity that teaches the difference between fact & opinion so students can then relate that to their opinion writing prompt...but it's not all writing and no fun (even though students have told me many times that this was the "funnest (ha ha)" writing activity ever and they didn't want to stop writing). They also get to make a particular groundhog craftivity (all templates included) so their groundhog matches what their opinion was on whether they wanted the groundhog to see their shadow or not.
-fact & opinion anchor charts-
-fact & opinion task cards and Scoot game to practice the difference before beginning opinion writing-
-opinion writing characteristics anchor chart-
-opinion writing sentence starters anchor chart-
-opinion writing activitiy (Would you rather the groundhog see it's shadow and have six more weeks of winter or would you prefer the groundhog to not see it's shadow so that spring can begin? Students fill out a planning template to get their ideas organized with temporal words then choose the appropriate writing paper (a groundhog with a stocking hat lined writing paper for those who want six more weeks of winter-a lot of skiing kids always choose this one- or they choose the lined writing paper with a groundhog with flowers if they prefer spring to begin)-
-differentiated planning forms for different grade levels or abilities-
-variety of publishing papers-
-two ADORABLE Groundhog CRAFTIVITIES (the groundhog craftivity each child makes depends on what their opinion was in their writing activity about if they preferred the grouhdhog to see their shadow or not see their shadow on Groundhog's Day-
-also includes a rubric to use for a variety of purposes if desired-
When finished, their published writing pieces are attached to the craftivity for display and I like to have a writing celebration and invite parents throughout the morning to celebrate their child's opinion writing....it's SO fun and a DEFINITE FAVORITE of all my students each year :)
