For my poetry unit, my goal is to get students engaged in at least one poem. For the homework, I try to give students many different kinds of poems to read, and many different assignments to complete. By offering many differentiated homework options, every student is able to find an assignment that interests them. Bottom line: they complete the assignment, meet the learning target, and don't mind the work!
This resource gives details on four different homework assignments on four different poem themes. It includes a handout explaining the homework options and assignments to students, and an explanation of learning targets and teaching guidelines for the unit. I've also included a poetry analysis worksheet, based on the TP-CASTT but with better explanations, in this resource.
