Kay Brimijoin, associate professor of education at Sweet Briar College in Virginia, developed the ThinkDots strategy. It is a great way to differentiate your instruction. This set of Poetry ThinkDots cards includes two sets of cards differentiated by readiness level. There is one set for below-level and on-level students and another for above-level students or students who want a challenge. The sets are offered as both double-sided and single-sided cards. Many of the activities incorporate technology.
To use the Poetry ThinkDots cards, give each student or pair of students a set of cards (according to their ability level) and one die. Give them a poem or several poems to choose from when completing the activities. Students roll the die and complete the activity on the card that matches the number of dots shown on the face of the die. You may want to allow students to roll twice if they do not like the first task they get, and then let them choose between the two. As an alternative, have students pick a certain number of tasks to complete.
You and your students will love using the Poetry ThinkDots cards!
