These Reading Goals were used in my 7th and 8th grade ELA classrooms for several years, but they can easily be adapted for use in ELA classes, grades 4-12. They make reading whole books a priority and were used in my classroom in a Reading Workshop atmosphere where students were given class time daily to read books of their and my choosing. The Goals are differentiated, with three (5, 8, and 10 book) sets of goals for each nine-weeks. The Goals are also written as a parent communication which was returned to me signed by a guardian, logged, and then returned to the student.
The students were responsible for keeping up with this page and filling it out as they completed books. I used these goals along with student conferencing twice each nine-weeks (midterm and end) and a graphic organizer which had to filled out for each book read. The graphic organizer was one I adapted from another source, so I cannot include it here.
