PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a ten week unit that combines spelling and studying Greek and Latin roots. Included are five spelling lists, with a two week instructional period planned for each. A lesson plan outline is included. Each twenty word list can be differentiated because the list starts with 1-2 syllable phonetic words and progresses to challenging multi-syllabic words.

Each unit contains a word list, sorting page, and unit test that can be copied for each student.

All students can participate in the activities, which include a word sort based on the roots, making a root word tree by researching other words containing the root, a Frayer diagram for studying words by defining, sketching and listing synonyms for assigned words.

Each of five lessons contain a word list of twenty words, a sorting page, and a test page for spelling and matching roots to their meanings. This unit also contains a cumulative list and a crossword puzzle for review. Extension activities are also listed.

The materials can be used for small group enrichment if you have students who have completed the Words Their Way lists, or can be used whole group with differentiation. It can be used in home schooling situations, private tutoring, for summer work or supplemental home activities.
