Cubing is an excellent way to differentiate lessons across subject areas. In reading instruction, it gives the teacher the ability to give an independent or group task to students while providing them with multiple opportunities to show what they've mastered. Students love options! Considering Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences, students are given options of ways to respond that cater to these needs. This lesson provides you with a cube and six options for students to show mastery of understanding the theme or big idea of a particular mentor text. This lesson is versatile in which you can use this with ANY TEXT! The cube can be used over and over again with different mentor texts or put in a "Read to Self" Center in which students use their leveled books to record their understanding of the lesson or big idea of the book read.
