What educators are saying

My students love write the room activities, and these were perfect for working on CVC words with my special needs 1st graders! Thanks!
This was a great activity to use during small group instruction with my kindergarteners. I love how easily I was able to differentiate to meet all needs of my kinders. Thank you!

Description

This activity meets the follow Common Core State Standards:
RF.K.2d: Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.
RF.1.2c: Isolate and pronounce initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single-syllable words.
RF.2.3a: Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words.
This activity supports letter sound, CVC, CVCC/CCVC, and CVCe instruction. It is differentiated to help you meet your various student readiness levels and is aligned to the Common Core State Standards for K-2. Your students will love searching the room for Love Bugs.
There are three sets of display cards for this activity. The green set represents CVC words. You can use these cards for CVC or beginning/middle/ending sound work. There are recording sheets in both color and b/w that will allow your students to work on CVC word production, beginning sound identification, middle sound identification or ending sound identification. The pink set is for students ready to tackle CCVC/CVCC word production. Finally the red set is for students working on CVCe word production. In my classroom, I have students that fit each of these categories which is why I use this activity to differentiate. There are also recording sheets that will extend their learning by having them write sentences about one of the words they find.
Teacher Instructions: Print out display cards on cardstock, laminate and cut out. Display the cards that you will be using (a select color or all) and tape them throughout your room. Print and laminate the color recording sheets to use with a dry erase marker, or print the b/w copies for students to use with a pencil, give student a clipboard and send them on their way to search for the Love Bugs. Because the recording sheets and display cards are color coordinated, it is possible to easily have all the cards out in your room and students will understand that ‘I have a green recording sheet, I search for and use the green display cards.’ If you have any problems or questions with this activity, please contact me at: mmmoffitm@gmail.com
