These differentiated word problems are tiered into three levels. Level 1, level 2, and level 3. Each level gradually progresses and becomes more challenging.
Level 1 could be used for students that need step by step guidance. Level 2 could be used for on level students.
Level 3 could be used for students that need extension and are working on a higher grade level. These could be used during center time, homework, or even as review to start the lesson.
There are 5 word problems total that have been tiered into 3 differentiated levels.
Skill (Common Core Aligned)
MCC3.OA.9-Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Patterns
MCC.3.NBT.1 Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.
MCC.3.NBT.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on
place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
These word problems allow students to work on patterns, addition, place value, subtraction. The format of these word problems also require students to explain their mathematical thinking.
