If you are anything like me, you LOVE using differentiated spelling / word work programs in your classroom. After becoming frustrated with disorganized notebooks and students forgetting how to complete certain activities, I decided... "Why not create a fully functional journal that they CAN'T mess up?!" So I did. ;)
This Differentiated Word Work Journal (along with a 3 page Teacher Guide) allows you to give your students their word lists, and then relax!
Students can complete the activities and sorts independently or with partners, and record the results of their work in the space provided for each week. Students have four large spaces each week to record their sorts, sentences, draw-and-labels, etc. while they practice for their assessments. If a student forgets an activity or needs reminders about the steps, instructions for TEN activities are provided. This feature helps parents, who can read the activity descriptions and practice with their students at home. Everyone benefits!
After each quiz, students record their scores and the effort they believe they exerted that week during word work time, allowing them to conceptualize the relationship between work and results. Parents and students alike will like the progress monitoring section, as they can watch scores change over the course of the year!
Teacher guide provides detailed instructions for how I use this document in class, including numbers of copies to make, how to assemble word work folders, and how to organize instruction in a manageable way.
Download the preview to see a short sample of an activity page, score recording page, and blank journal page.
I hope you enjoy this product! Happy teaching!
