Description
Understanding common spelling patterns is a key skill needed in reading and writing. However, just asking students to memorize a list of words does little to help them in these key skills. This word work and vocabulary packet is one of a set of packets designed to help students have the actual skills that are needed for reading and writing. Students have practice with: the meanings of each word (a skill often overlooked in the average spelling program, and a skill of great importance to English Language Learners and Special Education students), the many ways that one sound can be spelled, recognizing words with a certain spelling pattern in the books they read and recognizing misspelled words.
Since not all students in your class are ever at the same level, this packet has 4 different levels (basic, developing, intermediate and advanced) to allow teachers to meet the needs of all of their students. While working with this packet, students learn, sort, write with and find, new vocabulary words that fit within one designated spelling pattern. Each level also includes an assessment, where students fix misspellings of their vocabulary words. Use this packet as a small mini lesson, or the basis of all of your word work instruction, either way it will enhance the vocabulary of all of your students, including your English Language Learners and Special Education students.
This packet practices the L Endings spelling patterns of al, el, le, and il.
