Everyone loves “Would You Rather” games! These Differentiated Would You Rather Activities promote active listening and community building anytime during the year but are especially helpful as getting-to-know-you icebreakers. What special features set these DIFFERENTIATED WOULD YOU RATHER ACTIVITIES apart from other similar products?
★ Question Design: These “Would You Rather” questions were designed to be engaging and relevant for a wide variety of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities in order to build relationships in meaningful ways & facilitate the development of supporting arguments/counterarguments if desired. Use questions as part of your back-to-school plans or distribute throughout the year for some quick fun when you have a few extra minutes to fill.
★ Differentiated Resources for Arguments & Counterarguments: Three levels of sentence frames for answering “Would You Rather” questions are provided to assist students both with developing details and examples to support their own position as well as the opposite point of view. These differentiated sentence frames provide a clear structure for explaining one’s thinking using one, two or three supporting details. Two styles of full-page anchor charts also are provided that contain guiding questions for considering counterarguments.
★ Link to Opinion/Persuasive Writing: Questions may be used with or without the included sentence frames and resources for arguments/counterarguments. Used with these additional resources, these "Would You Rather" activities provide fun opportunities to ease into the skills needed for effective opinion & persuasive writing. ★ Choice in Formats: “Would You Rather” questions and differentiated sentence frames are provided in two sizes: task cards and full pages. Use task cards for small groups, partner work or center activities. Use full-page slides on an interactive whiteboard for whole-class lessons/discussions or partner/small group activities for which everyone is working on the same skill. Post full-page charts and task cards in a writing center or near writing resources for independent access to the tools when students are familiar with their use.
