Differentiation Strategy: Multiplying two 2-digit Numbers
The “2-for-1 Special”
I have had success with this method of teaching 2-digit multiplication with several of my students. We call it the “2-for-1 Special”, where you get 2 problems for the price of 1.
This method focuses on the Distribution Property side of 2-digit multiplication, splitting up the second factor into the tens and ones. You may wish to use number blocks to demonstrate this.
Included in this file are 2 worksheets (one with an example and one without) the students can use to work their problems using this method. There are also tips in how to move the student from this method back to the "traditional" method for multiplying 2-digit numbers together.
