Differentiation is not only a “buzz word” in education, it is the key reaching all students in highly diverse classrooms. I was constantly overwhelmed by the need for rigorous material for each student. I was confused by what genuine differentiation really was. During grad school, I completed a fair amount of research on Blooms Taxonomy. One day, I had the idea to create generic centers that could be used with various texts but were still differentiated by Blooms Taxonomy. Students have choice, fresh texts each week, and are now knowledgeable about what level they are in various ELA genres. In this case, I created options specifically catered to considering informational texts.
