Description
Lots of information packed pages about diffusion and osmosis including interactive notebook activities and hands-on activities and demonstrations. This is a great unit that stresses the semi-permeability of the cell membrane, the use of indicators to test for conditions we can’t otherwise observe, and the inability of the cell to absorb molecules of a certain size.
The materials include:
teacher’s guide
student lab handout
graphing exercise
cut and paste modeling
flash cards
classroom vocabulary posters
assignment pages
along with complete answer keys for everything!
These activities were initially created to support my students through the required New York State lab and state Regents exam preparation in June. I teach 9th and 10th graders. Many of my students are in co-taught biology, and do much better to handle the state requirements in smaller bits. This is one piece of a larger lab unit that's required.
Diffusion of molecules through the cell membrane is an important topic for understanding of cell function. The many activities in this packet can be used throughout the year, when you teach this lesson, for midterm review, for end-of-year exam review.
Even if you aren’t from NY, there are plenty of reasons to give this lab activity and its supporting materials a try.
