Product Description
Purpose: The overarching goal of this lesson is to teach students about diffusion and osmosis. This fits into the ‘bigger picture’ because it will help all students to realize that cell membranes are permeable, letting certain molecules into and out of the cell.

Objectives: As a result of this lesson SWBAT:
• Recognize that a cell membrane is selectively permeable.
• Explain that diffusion is when molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
• Observe osmosis through the egg experiment, and understand that the water molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.

The actual lab experiment will take 5 days, with a lot of observations as you put the egg in different solutions.
