Product Description
I created this activity as an introduction to immigration and to make students aware of some great novels that are available on the topic.

I give this page to the students after I have read ALL THE WAY TO AMERICA by Dan Yaccarino to my students. If you haven't seen this book, find it; it's super cute and a great introduction! Check out my blog post about it here: http://insidethisbookblog.blogspot.com/2012/06/all-way-to-america-freebie.html

Students use their library class time to explore each of the books and discover from which country the characters have emigrated. They get to explore books most probably wouldn't pick, and they are practicing skimming and previewing skills. (Anytime I can focus their time in the library away from I Spy books, I'm thrilled!)

This would also work as a literacy center during guided reading. Just provide the books and the sheets and let them go!
