Product Description
This product is a FUN way to explore mass. It ONLY covers the mass portion of the standard:

MCC3.MD.2 Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.

See my store for a liquid volumes activity!

This product contains the following:
*1 hands-on mass exploration activity for students to measure items with nonstandard (paperclips) and standard units (gram weights or unifix cubes as a substitute)
*Teacher directions for mass exploration activity
*1 recording sheet for the exploration with 6 open-response questions and 2 extension activities
*30 Task Cards that include: 10 cards to determine grams or kilograms of a listed item, 10 cards to determine estimated masses of items pictured, and 10 cards that are open response word problems (answer key included for all 30 cards)
*3 different recording sheets for the task cards for Scoot, Scavenger Hunt, or a Math station activity

Note: The exploration activity will require a few prep items such as: putting 5-6 items in a baggie for each team to use, a balance scale per team, baggies of paper clips per team, and gram weights (unifix cubes can substitute...1 unifix cube=3 grams, so students will do some math to determine exact gram weights of items on one task)
