This is the 2nd of 5 units in Digging Reading, a classroom curriculum for teaching reading comprehension strategies.
Unit 2: Using Prior Knowledge and Making Inferences
Unit 2 centers on Using Prior Knowledge and Making Inferences. During this 3-week unit, students progress from (1) identifying their prior knowledge to (2) recognizing how prior knowledge helps them understand what they read to (3) using their prior knowledge and clues from the text to make inferences.
Students learn the reading strategies through activities and interactive reading of the trade book Bird Boy by Elizabeth Starr Hill. All materials are provided except the trade book.
