This is the 4th of 5 units in Digging Reading, a classroom curriculum for teaching reading comprehension strategies.
Unit 4: Determining What Is Important and Summarizing
In Unit 4, Determining What Is Important is paired with Summarizing. Students progress from simple deletion of less important information to thinking through and briefly restating the most important information from narrative and expository texts. The 3-week unit contains 12 lessons.
Students learn the reading strategies through activities and interactive reading of the trade books Frindle by Andrew Clements and Twisters and Other Terrible Storms by Will Osborn and Mary Pope Osborne.All materials are provided except the trade books.
