What educators are saying

It's always great to find a new resource that can work well for either or both of my in-classroom learners as well as my distance learning students!
This activity was so much fun to do as a class right before Christmas. Parents loved seeing our class Christmas tree when we were finished and it was a great keepsake!

What is included?

1. The MAIN Google Document:

This download comes as a link in a PDF. The link will take you to what I call the MAIN Google™ Document. First, make sure you are signed into your Google™ account. Click on the link and you will be taken to a Google™ Doc that has all three links to the files you need for this project. Each link will prompt you to "Make a Copy". Rename the file to whatever you would like. It will be sent directly to your Google Drive™! Disperse to your students via Google Classroom™, Google Drive™ Shared folder, your Learning Platform, etc..

2. Directions in a Google Slides Presentation:

Step by step directions come in a Google Slides presentation. Either display it in front of the whole class or provide students with the link to the presentation so they can follow on their own. Each slide contains screenshots, arrows and text. Slide #2 contains a video tutorial that I created to show students how to use the tools in Google Drawing to design their ornament as well as export it as a png file and pull it into Google Slides. I demonstrate the following tools in the video tutorial:

•Bucket fill

•Outline

•Line thickness

•Adding text with text boxes

•Adding text with word art

•Using the different shapes tool

•Using the different lines tool

•Inserting images (but I mention that it looks better when the students design their ornament using the different tools in Google Drawing rather can clutter up their bulb with a bunch of images)

•I also show the exporting and importing process

3. Student Ornament Template:

A Google Drawing template that contains the outline of an ornament is provided. Each student needs their own copy.

3. Collaborative Tree Slide in Google Slides:

This is ONE slide that contains an image of a tree. Set this presentation so anyone with the link can EDIT and have your students all hop onto the same presentation. Each student, one by one, will add their ornament to the tree. I can anticipate that students will try and put their own ornament on the top of the tree which could possibly cause "issues" with other students. I suggest YOU create an ornament and put yours at the top or have a student use the star shape to add a star. You can also add any wording around the tree by using the text box or word art tools. The slide is already set to print on 8.5x11 paper.

Alternative: You could also choose to use this entirely as an independent project and have students create several ornaments to add to their own tree.

This project could easily be used with 2nd grade--->High School!
