This Digital Citizenship Breakout was created for intermediate students. My goals for creating this breakout were to:
*review digital citizenship skills with students after a unit or to engage them in beginning to learn about the skills
*finish a breakout within the constraints of a fixed media center schedule (lesson plus checkout during each weekly visit)
*incorporate popular areas in the media center into the game to capitalize on their media center prior knowledge to enable success
*encourage teamwork in classes by having the class work together to open one box (each team being responsible for one of the locks on the box)
This PowerPoint presentation (23 slides) includes all materials that you need to customize the breakout to your media center. The first 5 slides in the PowerPoint are for you to present the scenario and activity to students. The next 4 slides are an overview of how the breakout should run, as well as directions for how to prepare the materials and the media center for the activity. The remaining slides contain materials, such as clues, hint cards and a reflection worksheet, for you to print and use in the activity. You will need to purchase a small box, hasp, word lock, number lock, key lock, UV light, invisible ink pen and directional lock.
I hope that you and your students have fun reviewing call numbers with this breakout!
