This project in Google Slides™ is a great way for your students to synthesize and summarize everything they learn about digital citizenship. It also makes a meaningful writing project! I designed this activity around Common Sense Media's framework that covers the following 8 topics:
★Privacy & Security
★Digital Footprint & Reputation
★Self-Image & Identity
★Creative Credit & Copyright
★Relationships & Communication
Common Sense Media's K-12 Digital Literacy and Citizenship Curriculum maps correlate to a number of national and Common Core standards. You can find the scope & sequence with detailed lesson plans HERE .
I have also included a different version that goes along with Common Sense Media's 2018 updates that include 6 different topics: Media Balance & Well-Being, Privacy & Security, Digital Footprint & Identity, Relationships & Communication, Cyberbullying, Digital Drama & Hate Speech, and News & Media Literacy. Choose which one you would like to use OR use them both!
There is a slide for each of the 8 topics mentioned above that are linked to the main image on Slide #2. Slide #2 contains a picture of a laptop that has 8 icons for each of the digital citizenship components. These icons are hyperlinked to the corresponding slide that students will work on. Students type their own understanding of the topic in a text box that is provided and then can add an image or video to go along with their text. Each of these slides has a HOME icon that will take them back to the main slide.
Directions for students appear at the bottom of each slide.
At the end of this student activity are 4 slides for the teacher:
★Directions on how to insert an image
★Directions on how you can embed student presentations into your class blog/website
★A generic 40 point rubric that can be printed (slides are already set to print on 11.5x8 paper)
Once students finish their presentations, have them present to the class or to small groups to help them practice their public speaking skills and to constantly hear the importance of digital citizenship. It would even be fun to send your students to other classes to present their presentation
