Great for paragraph of the week usage! Use this digital literary analysis paragraph writing prompts packet in Google Drive to help your students improve their analytical writing skills or prepare for standardized tests. Twelve slides contain a work in the public domain from a classic novel, poem, or speech, and a writing prompt asking students to analyze how the author uses a specific element or device, and the effect of that device. Works include Common Sense by Thomas Paine, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Literary elements and devices include mood, tone, indirect and direct characterization, persuasion, and dialogue.
Your download provides a link to an editable Google Slides presentation that you can share with your students for them to work individually. Students type their paragraphs in text boxes directly next to the passages and are encouraged to highlight or underline key parts of the passage as they read. A rubric in the notes section of each slide allows you to assess student work directly underneath the student paragraphs.
The Slides presentation includes the following:
1) Cover page
2) Student instruction page
4) Example paragraph
5) Twelve slides, each with a passage, prompt and rubric
Note that the number of pages includes both the links page, as well as slides in Google Slides, which don't show up in the download but are provided via link.
