This lesson utilizes Photoshop with student's own photographs. The image created is a beautiful layering of images that correlate with a Social Justice quote creating a unique meme with meaning. This is a great starter project for any Digital Photography 101 course as it comes together very easily and includes many facets of Photoshop.
Teachers can also incorporate the art of Romare Bearden and the history of Civil Rights to further enrich the experience as laid out in the lesson plan. Utilizing a guided worksheet, students will brainstorm ideas for their meme. Upon completion, students will write a reflection on the meaning of their piece.
