Digital Version
There are a total of 11 work slides, with 5 tasks for students to complete per slide. Tasks included in each Short i CVC Word Family Phonics Mat:
- Students will point and read each word three times. The touch dots are included to help with one to one correspondence.
- Students will drag and drop to match the picture with the word.
- Students will look at the picture, say the word, and type the word in the text box. To make this a more meaningful practice, students should say each sound of the word to emphasize the beginning, middle, and ending sounds and their letter associations.
- Students will read the short story passage.
- Students will drag and drop a star on each word that matches the focused word family spelling pattern.
Paper/Printable Version
There are a total of 33 pages. Students will cut out pictures and glue to match them with the words. There are 3 options for how students write in the cvc word. The first set of eleven pages have a blank line for students to write the whole short i cvc word. The next set of eleven pages have the short i cvc filled in and students must trace the focused word family spelling pattern. The last set of five pages have students trace the whole short i cvc word. Students read the short story passages and circle, or highlight, the short i cvc words.
