Please click on the preview to get an idea of what this resource includes. This is a great activity to give to your students via google classroom if you just finished teaching simple interest. My students absolutely LOVE this activity and we have the BEST conversations. I truly feel it is one of the times during the year where the math I teach starts to actually resonate with the students and for two whole class periods they are authentically engaged. (Because who doesn't love car shopping and dreaming!)
Students get to search for a car and calculate the interest, total payback, and monthly payments for two given bank loans. They type in their information/answers into a google slide deck that is shared with each of them. Text boxes are already provided. Students are also asked to calculate the sales tax on the car and then debrief with questions at the end which involves critical thinking. Additionally, there are two extensions on the end that are optional and include another bank loan along with a down payment. All of this resource is ready to go as is, however I added the slides at the end for those who wish to change something or alter the problems/questions.
The concept of "interest" and car buying isn't secluded to math and could be used in a variety of different classrooms and at different levels. Give it a try and let me know if your students love it as much as mine. And don't forget to follow my store for additional resources along with some freebies.
