These word work sorts and activities take learning to a whole new level! Challenge your students with over 40+ engaging digital word sorts that get them reading and thinking about essential spelling patterns and the sounds they make. This resource was designed to provide a variety of vowel pattern word sorts and word work activities from which you can choose to complement your word work program and use all year long. The beauty of these digital sorts is that students have to engage with each word to decide where in the sort it belongs. (Click the video preview to see all that is included.)
So many times students rely on the way a word “looks” based on its spelling pattern when sorting. Sorting then becomes a passive activity. This resource provides rigor* because students can’t just rely on visual patterns to sort. They have to actively read, listen for a particular sound, and determine where in the word sort it goes based on the categories provided. In essence, this word work incorporates spelling pattern activities with phonemic awareness. For patterns that do not have ‘oddballs,’ students sort by syllables.
*Much time has gone into carefully researching, selecting, and creating these well thought out lists to make them the best they can be for my students.
Save precious instructional time. There is no prep work, cutting, or gluing for these sorts. Just get the link, copy, and assign.
