The Sentence Sense Solvers are here to help your children learn to check their comprehension when reading. Young children often have trouble remembering to skip an unknown or tricky word while reading. This activity helps them learn to skip the unknown word and read to the end of the sentence. They are then able to try a word they think will make sense. They can then go back and read the sentence again to check their comprehension by seeing if it sounds right and makes sense.
Included in this packet are:
*1 Sentence Sense Solvers Song
*10 ch puzzles and word cards
*10 sh puzzles and word cards
*10 th puzzles and word cards
*10 wh puzzles and word cards
*10 ph puzzles and word cards
*5 corresponding recording sheets
*5 Story Solvers Comprehension Stories
The hands-on puzzles come with picture support to help your ELL children. Children are able to try each word in the puzzle to see if it makes sense. Other digraph words are used throughout the puzzles as more practice in decoding those words.
These activities can be used as part of your Daily 5 Word Work or as part of your RtI Intervention groups.
Your children will be highly engaged as they build and read sentences that make sense.
