When it comes to new phonics skills, do you find yourself wishing for more time for exposure and practice? Do your struggling readers just need a break, because (let’s face it) reading is HARD WORK?
I have asked myself these questions so many times. I love practicing our new phonics skills in decodable text, I believe it helps secure the skills in my students’ toolbox. But YES, my students need a break sometimes. My struggling readers work so hard to read real text, and it can be defeating. However, learning through games can be very motivating and the success experienced can be very uplifting.
