Digraph Memory is designed to help students recognise, remember, read aloud and spell common digraphs. The pack contains:
The sort cards are shuffled and then placed face (word) down on a surface in 4 columns of 6 cards each. Students play Memory in groups of 2 and players take turns to turn over 2 cards to find a matching pair. The student must read out the word as it is turned over. If a matching pair is found, the pair is moved to the side nearest that player. The player with the most pairs at the end of the game (when all pairs are discovered) wins. If a player finds a matching pair they go on to have another turn.
Once the game is complete, Player 1 takes Player 2’s matching pairs and reads each word back to Player 2. Player 2 is required to correctly spell the words in order to score in the game. Player 2 is allowed to keep each pair that he/ she correctly spells and this score is recorded. The player forfeits any pair that they cannot spell correctly. Player 2 reads out the words in Player 1’s pairs and Player 1 is required to spell the words to score points. This spelling extension is played 3-5 times and the score for each round is recorded. The winner has the highest cumulative score over the 3-5 rounds. This provides opportunity to not only attempt to spell the digraphs (as well as recognise and read them out loud), but it also provides repeated opportunity to spell the words over the 3-5 rounds.
