Description

Ready to print! This open ended problem encourages creative problem solving using dimensional analysis strategies.

I teach a problem solving process that involves clarifying the problem, stating assumptions, describing thinking, and then checking for reasonableness. I suggest grading students based on their application of this process and correct use of dimensional analysis over reaching a "correct" answer. This helps students to see math as a tool instead of simply a procedure to follow.

Most students need a full 50 minute class period to tackle this task. There is an optional extension problem for those who work more quickly.
