This activity uses hypothetical units of measurement. It is designed to teach the student to cross cancel regardless of the student’s knowledge of the unit. I approach dimensional analysis from the standpoint of - let your conversions get you to the right answer first; and question how you got there later. In the final analysis, the student is asked to determine which unit in each string is the smallest and which is the largest. This takes critical thinking and the ability to track the size of a unit based on its relationship to the other units in the string. There are multiple ways that this can be done ~ I leave this to the students. Enjoy!
