Dining In! is an engaging activity that can be used in math menu/stations, independent enrichment, small group or whole group settings. In the activity students create a restaurant menu meeting specific requirements including ordering and comparing decimals. Once menu's are created students are dealt customer cards that give students different dining scenarios. The scenarios require students to think critically while adding and subtracting decimals.
The following TEKS are covered in this project:
4.1(A)-. The student is expected to: apply mathematics to problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace.
4.2(F)- The student is expected to: compare and order decimals using concrete and visual models to the hundredths.
4.4(A)- add and subtract whole numbers and decimals to the hundredths place using the standard algorithm.
