This center is designed to be used following an introductory lesson based on the counting of syllables in words. At this center, students sort words into the appropriate columns, based on the number of syllables within the word. Students draw words, which are located on bottle caps, from a box. They then read the word, determine the number of syllables, and write the word under the appropriate column.
The center can be constructed out of one folder, a tissue box, and bottle caps with words written on them. At each center students have directions for the activity, a paper worksheet to sort their words, and a tissue box filled with the word bottle caps.
