It's that time of year when your students are ready to learn more spelling conventions that will ultimately help their reading and writing.
In Grade 1, I typically introduce diphthongs to students in January, February and March.
In Grade 2, students are usually ready early on in the year.
The easiest sound to begin with is the "ow!" sound because students can hear it so quickly and easily think of words with that sound.
