According to NCTM's Principles to Action, 2014, "As students use and make connections among contextual, physical, visual, verbal, and symbolic representations, they grow in their appreciation of mathematics as a unified, coherent discipline." (p.29)
This product is a foldable that summarizes the essential characteristics of Direct Variation functions, which are a type of linear functions. The Foldable includes panels for the Graphs, Tables, Equations and Contexts of Direct Variations. Ideally it would be used with students after they derived these characteristics from looking at the structure of Direct Variations (MP7).
My students enjoy making and using foldables in our algebra class. A foldable is a graphic organizer that students cut out, fold, and tape or glue into their notebook. This content is also appropriate for the grade 8.
The foldable is a 2-page pdf and should be printed front to back, at "Actual size".
