The Directed Reading Thinking Activity hones students' ability to make predictions and then look for specific factual information from the text to prove their predictions are accurate or incorrect. The purpose of the instruction is to increase students' comprehension of a text. Students use their prior knowledge and/or visual clues to anticipate content. This creates a purpose for reading and seeks to confirm or deny their predictions.
