This is one of my favorite assignments of the year! Students must pick 4 memories / milestones from their lives, and then brainstorm several images for each. There is a step-by-step instruction sheet, and on the back, a large chart students can use to brainstorm sensory details.
This assignment works wonderfully after reading "The River-Merchant's Wife: A Letter." I reference that poem in the instruction sheet, but the document is in Word in case you'd like to delete the reference, or tweak any of the directions or the rubric. I also have a question sheet for "River-Merchant" listed separately on TpT.
This assignment produces some of the most detailed, moving pieces I see from the students all year. In addition, students really get to know the power of imagery from the inside-out.
