Disability Pride Speech Project: Make a Social Media Campaign (3Es - Empower)

- Internet Activities

Description
This resource provides an outline to help students create a social media awareness campaign about their lived disability or communication difference. This activity is applicable to all diagnoses and disabilities.
This outline is designed to help you prepare the content, facts, and stories that your speech therapy participant would like to share. Use speech therapy session time to gather this information and discuss what kind of posts would work best. Use your creative skills to turn this content into videos, graphics, or text-based posts depending on individual preferences.
This resource generates enough content for one post per week for four weeks, if using a formal “campaign” approach. Each week has a different theme: awareness, advocacy, allyship, and affinity. Your participant may choose to use all or just some (or none!) of the material. They may want to post more or less frequently, depending on their personal preference and comfort. For example, they could make a weekly post with 5 facts, or 5 daily posts with 1 fact each. They may want to stick to one social media platform, or switch it up between text and video and images on different platforms. Follow their lead and encourage creativity!
This lesson is a 3Es resource targeting the therapy theme of EMPOWER.
