This is a very simple lesson to help students decode two-syllable words and read them. With a master's degree in education and 21 years as a homeschooler, private tutor, and para-educator, I've researched and used many different reading curricula with students in grades K-6. To read successfully, kids need to know when a vowel is short or long. They typically know their consonant sounds, but often stumble when it comes to vowels.
This lesson does the following:
-- gives a brief tutorial for the v-c-v and v-c-c-v pattern
-- explains where to split words into syllables
-- indicates if the vowels are long or short based on where syllable splits occur
-- includes worksheets for student to practice
-- includes extra page of reading for students who need one-on-one practice with a teacher, tutor or parent instructor
