This is a two-for-one activity. First, students will see a wonderful presentation on Christopher Columbus’ voyage to the New World. Then they will create their own game board maps of North America, the Atlantic Ocean and Europe.
After that they can have a blast trying to get to the New World from Spain by correctly defining their words. You can use your own vocab words FOR ANY SUBJECT or you can use the ones I've provided.
Also, you can use this activity OVER AND OVER with your new vocab words for each week.
Two Common Core standards are addressed:
LACC.2.RI.2.4 - Determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 2 topic or subject area.
Common Core: LACC.2.L.3.4 - Use glossaries and beginning dictionaries, both print and digital, to determine or clarify the meaning of words and phrases.
And one NGSS standard: SS.2.A.2.5 - Identify reasons people came to the United States throughout history.
This makes for a great classroom activity or homework assignment they can do with their family.
Enjoy this social studies presentation and vocabulary activity, and Have Fun!
